Lies For Attention: guitar and songwriting

Gray’s account of learning an instrument and forming a band with friends in Las Vegas.

Learning before forming a band

In her 2024 interview, Gray said she had not known how to play guitar roughly three years earlier. By the time of that conversation she was singing and playing guitar in Lies For Attention.

She described the group as a new project and said they were preparing their second show. That was a stage in the band’s development in 2024, rather than a present concert announcement.

Writing with two friends

Gray said the band consisted of herself and two close friends in Las Vegas. She supplied much of the initial creative direction, while describing substantial contributions from everyone.

Those contributions were especially helpful when she encountered writer’s block. Her account presents songwriting as a shared activity, without naming other members or assigning them instruments not established in the interview.

Finding a sound

She placed the band’s developing sound between punk, pop-punk and shoegaze. She also described the music as expressing frustration and emotions that listeners might recognize.

Gray planned to take voice lessons and continue making music. The interview records those intentions; it does not establish completed vocal qualifications or a released album.
